If you’re new to “What’s Up in the Academy?” and my work, I’m a 30+ year US Higher Education veteran who has worked at five different institutions. After closing a college in 2018, I shifted my attention toward helping colleges and universities optimize their work by opening my boutique consulting firm, Fortify Associates and teaching graduate students. The itch to create by writing this newsletter and podcasting is firmly rooted in my undergraduate desire to become a journalist. While that first career didn’t last long (thanks to the Reagan Recession of the late 80’s) … this Substack and my podcast have been an outlet for my media loving heart.
