It’s Monday morning after the briefest of holidays, Thanksgiving Break. Campus ‘closed’ on Wednesday at noon. The Dean of Students turned off their lights and set their away message at 2:00pm. But that doesn’t keep the emails from coming in. Let’s take a look at a sample of the Dean of Students In Box. In true “Law & Order” fashion, names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Subject: My child has been sleeping since they arrived home.
Dear, Dean -
It’s Saturday at 12:30 Pacific Time and my child came home from YOUR campus on Monday at 3:00pm. They missed classes because we made a decision to get them home rather than pay the insane airline prices. Why don’t you just close all week? Anyhoo, my child has been sleeping since they got home. I’ve been leaving food outside their door. They eat it. But they don’t come out. What is going on with them? Is it like this all the time?
Signed,
Karen - a concerned parent, not that kind of Karen.
