On Palm Sunday my nearly 82 year old father called me from his cell phone. “Guess where I am?” Before I could respond he let me know, “I’m at the Brewster North train platform. I took MetroNorth here for three bucks, it’s a Senior Rate. I went to Palm Sunday mass up here, walked over to the cemetery, and paid my visit. Walked back to the diner in Brewster and had an egg sandwich on a bulky roll for $4. Imagine? Four bucks! Amazing.”
Dad loves an egg sandwich, a bulky roll and a bargain. He also loves what could only be described as a full day well spent. And that was a full day.
