In the last year I have befriended several women in their 70’s and 80’s. This has primarily occurred through political organizations and local government, an environment ripe for older women seeking to stay involved. Two of these women lost their spouses in the last six months and while I never met the husbands, these two women are now trying to make meaning of it all.
In both cases the women are seeking help with their lives. Both have adult children nearby, who are providing help and support. In both cases, these women are seeking help with their lives, not just from their adult children nearby who provide support, but also from friends who will simply show up and make space for them to share their feelings.
