NASPA Recap & Review. Original Air Date, March 30, 2022
Over 4,000 members of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education - otherwise known as NASPA came together March 20-23 in Baltimore, Maryland. This was the associations first - in person -annual conference since the spring of 2019. Like so many other aspects of our lives, NASPA was forced to reimagine the delivery of their nearly 80 annual in person events during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, and now, as we transition to endemic living and conferencing, NASPA was ready to deliver. But, the world of Student Affairs has changed, the great resignation is putting a great strain on campus service delivery, and the field itself is at a crossroads. And as is typical of the conference, there was controversy and debate about what the association should be prioritizing. In this episode, of “Office Hours with Dr. De Veau”, my guests were 2022 NASPA Conference Chair, Dr. Mamta Accapadi, Vice Provost for University Life at the University of Pennsylvania and from the NASPA office, Joey Desanto Jones, the Executive Director of the Higher Education Consortium for Student Affairs Certification. AKA: The “Certification Consortium”.

“Office Hours with Dr. De Veau” Upcoming Episodes
April 6, “Thriving in Unfamiliar Places” with guest, Dr. Sydney Freeman, University of Idaho. Dr. Sydney Freeman is a groundbreaker. He is a professor in the Department of Leadership and Counseling at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, the first African American male to be promoted to full professor in the university's history. Being a ‘first’ on a predominantly white university campus is one thing, but having moved to Idaho after having spent a good chunk of his career at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, that is something altogether something else. During our time together, I am going to be probing Dr. Freeman’s essay “Thriving in Unfamiliar Places” where we dig into his thesis that in order to thrive and be their completely authentic selves, it is essential to follow three keys: Knowing Who you are, Knowing Whose you are, Knowing Who you want to become. Join us on Wednesday, April 6 at 12Noon, ET
April 13, April Think Tank Episode! Each month, members of the Office Hours Think Tank join me for a rousing hour of discussion on the latest news and views. It’s always fun to have the Think Tank join us for an hour of current conversations! Wednesday, April 13 at 12Noon, ET
