My husband believes I am the least sentimental person on the planet. This isn’t entirely true. While unlike my husband who aligns sentimentality with stuff and the keeping of stuff, I align sentimentality with memories, moments and people. This also allows me to keep my life a bit less cluttered with stuff that is worth little and requires an inordinate amount of dusting.
I do find great value in people, and what they mean to me at specific moments of my life, and one of them is Joe, my thesis advisor. Joe was not my first advisor, rather, I was initially assigned to someone who wanted me to change my topic to meet their research preference. You see, it was May of 2018. I was about to take my final course in my Ed.D. program. On April 6th of that same year, the announcement of the closure of Mount Ida College was made, and my head was swirling. How was I going to move forward with finishing this unbelievably difficult task? Why should I even try it? Who cares what I have to say in this ‘new’ piece of research?
