For the second time in one season, Saturday Night Live has taken inspiration from Higher Ed for its Cold Open. This week, New York City Colleges and the recent encampments and protests regarding the War in Gaza, and specifically how parents of college students were feeling got the spotlight.
The Atlantic wasn’t impressed. Indeed there were elements of the delivery that were a little clunky (typical of the cold opens), but I did find the commentary was relevant and the writing was on point. Kenan Thompson played a Columbia University Dad, who was happy that college students were expressing themselves, but that was for other parent’s children. Not his. She better be sleeping in the dorm he pays for - not in a tent.
