If you paid any attention to the final meme trends of 2024 you may be well aware of the “holding space” meme that emerged from the “Wicked” press tour. A member of the Queer media, Tracey E. Gilchrist acknowledged that people had been intensely impacted by the lyrics of “Defying Gravity”, a show-stopper number from the musical. The term, “holding space” has psychological origins and loosely means witnessing and validating the emotional state of others. Gilchrist herself has been quoted as saying to her, it means to “be in the moment.”
