Gen Z Enters #HigherEdPro Status

Meeting the Moment as Supervisors

In a few short weeks, the Class of 2026 will be marching across commencement stages across the country. And behind each of these graduates will be a tow rope of generational trauma: a global pandemic, economic instability, political division, the mental health crisis and the destruction of the climate. Each of these issues has caused disruption, anxiety and uncertainty in their young lives. And before you chime in and say that your generation had trauma’s too, Gen Z has something every generation before them did not - lightning speed access to information in the palm of their hands and a growing lack of care for the relevance of facts. Combined, these young people are commencing to begin their adult lives burdened as no Generation has before them.

These young people are already applying to jobs and (hopefully) will successfully be landing their first professional roles at companies, institutions and organizations. All while these uncertainties continue to undulate around them. It is for this reason that I am going to ask that anyone who considers uttering something of the nature of “Generation Z doesn’t know how to work”, can take ALL THE SEATS.
