Friday Replay: Making Your Campus Veteran Ready
Get Caught Up on the First of a 3-Part Series on Veterans on Campus
During the month of March, “Office Hours with Dr. De Veau” will be focusing on Veteran Friendly campuses and some of the key issues for HigherEd pros to be considering in serving this important population. Dr. David Vacchi from the Naval War College in Newport, RI will be my co-host for this three part series on Veteran Friendly Campuses this Month on Fireside.
Veteran Show 1: Making Your Campus Veteran Ready
Veterans have a proven track record for being self motivated and completing their studies, and add a diversity of lived experiences to campuses. Having a campus that is considered Veteran Ready goes beyond a yellow-ribbon or an asterisk in a view book. There are essential components of what makes a campus truly Veteran Ready and achieving such benefits the entire campus.
Upcoming Shows:
Veteran Show 2: Mental Health & Disability Services, Friday, March 24 at 1pm ET
Essential aspects of a Veteran Friendly campus include Mental Health and Disability Services that are not only offered to students but meet students where they are. The challenge may be getting Veterans to use these services. Framing mental health and disability services in ways that will encourage students to utilize these services will not only benefit Veterans but also other student populations that do not maximize these campus opportunities. My co-host, Dr. David Vacchi from the Naval War College returns along with Dr. Janine Wert, LICSW Director Veterans' ServicesAt the University of Massachusetts Lowell for this second episode in the Veteran Friendly Show Set. Set a Reminder for the show in your calendar.
Veteran Show 3: The Veteran Workforce, Friday March 31 at 12Noon ET
Veterans who earn a college degree have the added benefit of possessing transferrable skills they have acquired from active duty including leadership, problem solving, teamwork and an ability to communicate and see a task through to completion. These are skills that are being sought-after by employers, but Veterans may not have the mind-set to see that their active duty experience and their degree can combine to great opportunities. This final episode in our Veteran Friendly Show Set will focus on how the Veteran Workforce may heighten how Veteran Ready your campus may truly be. Dr. David Vacchi from the Naval War College returns to co-host this show. Set a Reminder for the show in your calendar.
