Find Joy
Your two words for the Summer of 2026
Took a risk on a $20 ticket to see a “surprise headliner” at my local comedy club. The headliner? Mike Birbiglia, working out his newest material. Joyful laughter.
Took in a Broadway show starring one of the most gifted women in comedy. Joyful creativity.
Got off the MBTA a couple of stops early to seek out the Tartan Army and Haitian football fans that had set up camp in Boston for the World Cup. Joyful national pride.
And then there are the New York Knicks, showing how a crushing championship drought can still bring out the most glorious joyful noise.
Intermixed were days where I listened to new offerings from favorite singer-songwriters, got an education on Earth, Wind & Fire and Martin Short, volunteered in my community, attended a slumber party with girlfriends, and cheered on the possibility of a celebrity relationship between Keke Palmer and Sean Evans. Joyful and free.
Summer has never been my favorite season - that honor goes to fall. But summer has evolved into my most flexible season, and I have become committed to finding as much joy as possible to fuel my productive side.
