The Democrats' performance at Linda McMahon's confirmation hearing for Secretary of Education was a missed opportunity to challenge a nominee whose vision aligns with President Trump's plan to dismantling the department. McMahon, despite lacking a strong background in education policy, demonstrated a command of messaging reminiscent of her World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) days, overshadowing the Democrats and allowing the GOP to dominate the narrative.
While Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and the Freshman Senator from NJ, Sen, Andy Kim did an admirable job, as noted by my colleague, Raul Fernandez in his Substack yesterday, the rest of the Senate Democrats looked haggard and sounded defeated. Sen. Lisa LaTrelle Blunt Rochester (D-DE) who couldn’t pull together a cogent question about the DOGE assault on the USDOE was particularly poor.
