If you had the opportunity to visit friends and family during the Thanksgiving holiday it is likely that you were asked about work. When you answered, were you honest? I will admit there have been times that the “fine” response was all I could muster, even though it wasn’t fine, or it was actually far superior than fine. I knew my audience.

If you were honest, how did folks respond? Did they seem interested in your work, and if so were they fascinated to hear what you were seeing in your day to day? More often than not, when I have decided to share what was happening at work and contribute to conversations during holiday and social visits with people who existed outside the boundaries of a college campus, I found that they were truly interested in students and the lives that they were leading.
