There are moments when I long to disconnect. But then I realize that if I disconnect, it really only impacts me. Sure, switching to a ‘dumb phone’ might provide a digital detox, but would it mean losing touch with those in my life whom I cherish? What about losing the ability to quickly scan a QR code to check in at the gym or use Waze to ensure I have the most up-to-date directions? No, I cannot go dumb.
If I’m being honest, it’s not the smartphone I want to ditch-it’s social media. That is the real problem, not only for my time management, productivity, and headspace, but also as a cause of humanity’s spiral toward stupidity and exceptional boredom.
